"There's so much more to this world that we've created and I'm excited to show you. This is just the beginning."KPop Demon Hunters” was a fantasy adventure about a fictional K-pop girl group who use their music to save the world from demons. While plot details for the second film have not been confirmed, Apple Haynes teased that the filmmaker duo is “excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve.”These characters are like family to us," he said. "Their world has become our second home."The news comes ahead of the Oscars, where “Kpop Demon Hunters” is nominated for best animated feature and original song “Golden.” Produced and produced by Sony Pictures Animation, “KPop Demon Hunters” debuted directly on Netflix as part of a licensing deal. It became a phenomenon and now ranks as the streamer’s most popular film to date. “KPop Demon Hunters” even became a box office hit when Netflix brought a version with the song to theaters for fan events in the fall of 2025.“With ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ Maggie and Chris not only reached an audience, they sparked a global sensation that transcended languages, races, and genres,” said Bella Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer. “We are incredibly proud to deepen our partnership with them and, together with our partners at Sony Pictures Animation, build on this universe in ways that will surprise and delight fans around the world. Netflix film chairman Dan Lin praised Kang and Apple Haynes for being "brave enough to take a bold creative swing by telling a story that breaks down deep personal and cultural barriers."At Netflix, our goal is to make someone's favorite movie," Lin said. "They did that by making it the most popular Netflix movie of all time''. Furthering the bold creative visions of our filmmakers is at the heart of everything we do at Sony Pictures Animation,” said Sony Pictures Animation Presidents Christine Belson and Damien de Froberville. “Maggie and Chris bring their incredibly distinct perspectives to this film, and it’s clear that we’re telling a story with people working with audiences. We’re excited to expand our vision into the next chapter.”
